Drink Slingers was born from a chance encounter at a festival in 2014, when Sadie Smythe and Nannette Taft first crossed paths. Just four months later, they launched what would become one of Austin’s most trusted event bartending services.
Both were in the midst of career transitions when a mentor offered them an opportunity in event bartending. With Sadie’s background in marketing and event production and Nannette’s experience in international education, the two brought complementary strengths to their new venture.
From the very beginning, the goal was simple: to bring ease, style, and fun to every celebration. Whether it was a wedding, birthday, or backyard bash, they found joy in creating smooth, stress-free experiences for hosts—handling everything from setup to clean up, with genuine hospitality in between.
As demand for Drink Slingers grew, so did the team. Bartenders, event managers, warehouse staff, and operations support all joined the mix, helping the business scale without compromising quality.
Today, Sadie is the sole owner of Drink Slingers and remains deeply committed to the values the company was founded on. While she may not be behind the bar herself these days, she continues to focus on hiring the best and friendliest bartenders in Austin—people who embody the company’s core belief, borrowed from Maya Angelou:
